DAISY
She runs like a blast of virgin air,
Stroking the earth and kicking up dust,
No-one knows from where she blows
And how far she will carry her gust.
She shines like a shaft of shimmering light
That shoots through glass on a showery day,
And spotlights a shape that cannot escape
Its lifeless form and its immortal grey.
She smells like a flower that opens in June,
Unclothing life in the prettiest pink,
Scenting the air and presuming to dare
The senses to stand still and think.
She swims like the moon in the sky
That reflects in ripples on water,
And until time debars, I thank the stars
That she is my beautiful daughter.
